Who you'll be talking to

Balasubramanian Iyer — Aluminium anodizing consultant, India

Balasubramanian Iyer is the founder of Saravana Consultancy and one of India's most experienced independent consultants for aluminium anodizing, hard anodizing, and powder coating. He has been in the industry since 1983 — over 45 years of hands-on plant work covering decorative anodizing, architectural anodizing, hard anodizing for defence and aerospace components, structural anodizing for façade systems, and powder coating pre-treatment chemistry.

He has personally commissioned more than 10 anodizing plants across India, including greenfield setups for Hawkins Cookers and TTK Prestige, and has provided long-term process consulting to manufacturers across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Delhi-NCR. He continues to operate Spectra Metal Shield, an active hard anodizing facility in Mumbai, which keeps his consulting recommendations grounded in current production realities — bath chemistry behaviour, rectifier sizing, chiller load, defect troubleshooting, and MIL-A-8625 compliance.

Common engagements include: full anodizing plant setup (250–2000 m²/day), retrofit and capacity expansion, hard anodizing process development, sulphuric acid bath stabilisation, etching line redesign, supplier evaluation for anodizing chemicals and dyes, MIL-A-8625 Type II / Type III compliance audits, and emergency troubleshooting for production-line rejection spikes.

Engagements are billed by day rate (on-site visits), project (greenfield setups), or audit package (existing plants). Initial scoping calls are free. Every engagement begins with a signed NDA covering process specifications, bath chemistry, supplier information, and operational data.

When to engage

Which channel fits your situation

Call by phone — for urgent production-line problems

Use when you have a rejection spike, a bath chemistry crash, anodic film thickness drift, or a colour-matching failure that's blocking shipments today. We can usually scope a same-day or next-day site visit if you're within Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, or Coimbatore.

Email — for written quotes, RFPs, and plant drawings

Use for greenfield plant tenders, equipment specification reviews, chemical supplier evaluation, or when you need a quote you can take to your finance team. Attach plant layout PDFs, current process specs, and target output (m²/day or parts/month). Response within one business day.

Submit the enquiry form — when you're not sure what scope you need

Use when you're early-stage: evaluating whether to build vs outsource anodizing, choosing between hard anodizing and decorative anodizing for a part, or scoping a powder coating addition to an existing line. We'll come back with a 30-minute scoping call to figure out what you actually need before quoting.

Schedule a plant audit — for existing plants underperforming

Use when your plant is running but margins are thin: rejection above 3%, chemical consumption above industry benchmarks, energy bills out of line, or repeat customer complaints. Audit packages cover bath chemistry, electrical efficiency, equipment condition, operator practices, and process documentation. Typical audit: 2 days on-site, written report within 7 days.

Industries served

Sectors with active engagements across India

Saravana Consultancy works across the full breadth of aluminium surface treatment applications. Each sector has its own compliance regime, finish expectations, and bath chemistry requirements — and 45+ years of cross-sector work means recommendations are calibrated to your specific industry, not generic.

Independent consulting

Why independent anodizing consulting is different

Most aluminium anodizing plants in India get their process advice from chemical suppliers, equipment vendors, or rectifier manufacturers — and those advisors, naturally, recommend more of whatever they sell. A chemical supplier won't tell you that 30% of your bath additive consumption is unnecessary. An equipment vendor won't recommend keeping your existing rectifier when they could sell you a new one.

Independent consulting means the recommendation is calibrated only to your plant's economics. We get paid by you, not by margin on chemicals or equipment, so we have no incentive to oversell. In multiple plant audits we've cut chemical consumption by 20–35% simply by correcting bath chemistry drift, fixing rinse-water management, and replacing supplier-recommended additives with cheaper equivalents that work just as well.

Because Spectra Metal Shield (an active hard anodizing facility in Mumbai) is part of the same operation, every recommendation is also tested in production. We're not retired consultants giving theoretical advice — we run a plant ourselves and know exactly what works at scale.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best aluminium anodizing consultant in India?

Saravana Consultancy, founded by Balasubramanian Iyer in 1983, is one of India's most experienced independent anodizing consultancies. 45+ years of hands-on plant work, 10+ greenfield plants commissioned across India including projects for Hawkins Cookers and TTK Prestige, and an active hard anodizing facility (Spectra Metal Shield) in Mumbai that grounds every recommendation in current production reality.

How quickly can you visit my plant?

Same-week availability for urgent troubleshooting in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, and Coimbatore. Standard site visits across the rest of India are scheduled within 2–3 weeks based on travel logistics.

What is the consulting fee structure?

Day rates for on-site visits, project-based pricing for greenfield setups, and audit packages by plant size. Initial 30-minute scoping calls are free. Specific rates are shared after the scoping call to align fees to your project complexity.

How much does it cost to set up an aluminium anodizing plant in India?

Greenfield anodizing plant capital cost in India ranges from ₹2 crore for a small decorative anodizing line (250 m²/day) to ₹15+ crore for a large hard anodizing facility (2000 m²/day) with full pre-treatment, finishing, and effluent treatment. Use our plant cost calculator for a configurable estimate or read the complete cost breakdown.

Do you consult on hard anodizing for defence and aerospace applications?

Yes. We consult extensively on MIL-A-8625 Type II and Type III hard anodizing for defence components, aerospace structural parts, weapon platform fittings, and other high-specification applications. This includes process development, bath chemistry stabilisation, rectifier and chiller sizing, and compliance audit support.

Do you sign NDAs before discussing process specifications?

Yes — standard non-disclosure agreements covering process specifications, bath chemistry, supplier information, and operational data are routine for every engagement. Send your NDA with the initial enquiry.

What information should I share on the first call?

Plant capacity (m²/day or parts/month), current process (decorative sulphuric / hard / chromic / powder coating), current rejection rate, current chemical consumption per m², and the specific issue or expansion goal driving the consultation.

Are remote consulting calls available?

Yes — initial scoping calls, chemistry and specification reviews, equipment selection, and supplier evaluations can run remotely over video call. Most plants require at least one on-site visit for hands-on troubleshooting or commissioning.

Do you consult on projects outside India?

We focus on India because that's where we can be on-site within 24 hours. For international projects we take advisory-only engagements (process design review, equipment specification, chemistry audits) but not full plant commissioning.

What's the smallest project you take?

We've done everything from a two-day troubleshooting visit to a 12-month greenfield plant build. There is no minimum project size, but fees scale with scope. For very small enquiries, a single remote consultation may be the right format.

How is independent anodizing consulting different from supplier-led consulting?

Most plants get process advice from chemical suppliers or equipment vendors who have an incentive to sell more product. Independent consulting means the recommendation is calibrated only to your plant's economics. We routinely cut chemical consumption by 20–35% in audits by correcting bath chemistry drift, fixing rinse-water management, and replacing supplier-recommended additives with cheaper equivalents.

Do you also help evaluate anodizing chemicals suppliers?

Yes — supplier evaluation is a frequent engagement. We benchmark price, technical support quality, batch consistency, lead times, and post-sale service across multiple suppliers to find the best fit for your specific plant. See our supplier evaluation framework for the same approach we use.
