IS 1868 — Anodic Coatings on Aluminium and its Alloys (4th Revision)

The controlling Indian standard for anodic coatings on aluminium and its alloys, covering decorative and protective anodizing. Specifies coating-thickness grades AC 5, AC 10, AC 15, AC 20, AC 25 (thickness in micrometres), with sealing quality, abrasion resistance, light-fastness, and dimensional change requirements. Provides test method references (cross-linked to IS 5523 for thickness, sealing, and abrasion testing). Used for BIS certification of anodized architectural extrusions, consumer goods, and industrial components in India. The 4th revision aligned several provisions with ISO 7599.

IS 5523 — Methods of Test for Anodic Coatings on Aluminium and its Alloys

Companion test-methods standard to IS 1868. Defines laboratory procedures for measuring anodic coating thickness (gravimetric and microscopic), assessing seal quality (dye-stain absorption and admittance), abrasion resistance, mass per unit area, and light-fastness on dyed coatings.
